This paper investigates the potential of crushed tiles as coarse aggregate in concrete. Test results of bulk, saturated surface dry (SSD) and apparent specific gravities, bulk unit weight, water absorption, resistance to abrasion, percent of voids and grading (performed as per ASTM standards) on two types of crushed tiles were compared with the results of conventional crushed stone aggregate.

Effects of using recycled concrete of different qualities as coarse aggregate upon the strength and deformation of concrete are reported. Tests on the aggregates showed that the recycled concrete aggregates have lower specific gravity and higher absorption capacity than the original crushed granite aggregate.
Coarse aggregate should contain various fraction sizes to ensure adequate compaction of particles, hence resulting in increased density and reduced voids in concrete. In the majority of concrete works, aggregate sizes of 20 mm or smaller are used. To ensure good coarse aggregate compaction and higher concrete density, it is recommended to mix ...

Jul 29, 2019· After the water evaporates and the cleaning and sorting process is finished, the remaining aggregate pieces can be safely used as crushed concrete. Crushed Concrete Driveway. Crushed Concrete driveways are a much more cost-effective driveway solution compared to gravel driveways, regular concrete driveways, or asphalt driveways.
In this article we explore the importance of aggregate testing, various tests on aggregates and all the important properties of aggregates. Aggregate is one of the primary building materials and constituent of concrete. Aggregates are used in construction and include sand, gravel, crushed stone, slag, recycled concrete …
An attempt was made in this experimental investigation to recycle wood waste. Concrete-containing wood aggregate in percentages of 0, 15, 20 and 25 in place of crushed stone was developed with a characteristic compressive strength of 25 MPa, with a mix proportion of 1:1.26:2.76 and with water/cement ratio of .45.
After removal of contaminants through selective demolition, screening, and /or air separation and size reduction in a crusher to aggregate sizes, crushed concrete can be used as: new concrete for pavements, shoulders, median barriers, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, and bridge foundations structural grade concrete soil-cement pavement bases lean ...
The use of concrete in structures consumes millions of tons of aggregates. Since earth is the source of the aggregates (either natural or crushed), then obtaining these amounts would have an adverse effect on the environment. Furthermore, demolishing concrete structures and dumping the concrete rubbles would aggravate the problem. Therefore, it becomes necessary to recycle the crushed concrete ...
Coarse aggregates are any particles greater than 0.19 inch, but generally range between 3/8 and 1.5 inches in diameter. Regional Coverage. We produce crushed stone, sand and gravel from 19 aggregates facilities located in New York, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Texas, Vancouver, B.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Applications
In general, there is a 10% decrease in strength when recycled coarse aggregates are used. Uses of Crushed Concrete Aggregates. Crushed Concrete has a wide variety of uses within the civil construction industry and has been incorporated into major projects. The uses of crushed concrete is divided into two major groups: 1.
The suitability of crushed clay bricks as coarse aggregate for concrete has been assessed by making a direct comparison of the basic properties with those of equivalent conventional concrete. Four basic mixes were chosen for crushed granite to achieve concrete with grades ranging from 30 to 60 MPa.
Using the E-waste as a partial replacement of coarse aggregate in concrete is the best solution. We can not fully replace material in concrete because it impacts the workability of concrete. The electronic waste is crushed as required particle size and can be mixed with other aggregates in concrete which will not affect the quality & durability ...
Aug 11, 2018· Recycled concrete can be used as aggregate in new concrete, particularly the coarse portion. When using the recycled concrete as aggregate, the following should be taken into consideration: Recycled concrete as aggregate will typically have higher absorption and lower specific gravity than natural aggregate and will produce concrete with ...
Recycled Concrete Aggregate At-A-Glance. When a concrete sidewalk, road, parking lot, or structure needs to be excavated and replaced, the concrete is often discarded into a landfill. Because chunks of concrete are not biodegradable and are unable to decompose over time, the waste takes up a great deal of space and creates environmental concerns.
Crushed concrete is cheaper than crushed stone, but is also just as durable. And because the material can be purposed for such a large variety of projects, nearly everyone can enjoy the advantages of crushed concrete. But as with any construction material, most people are concerned about cost.
Crushed concrete aggregate (CCA) is made from unused, returned concrete, and old demolished concrete that is clean enough to be used for new concrete mixes. Crushing old concrete to make aggregate for new concrete is growing in popularity for many reasons the with first being able to create a more sustainable or "green" concrete.
Jun 27, 2013· Paving Expert – AJ McCormack and Son – Aggregates for Paving … Ballast. As with a lot of terms used for aggregates, this one has … and/or small stone (<40mm) with sand, used to make concrete.Elsewhere, it can refer to the coarse granular stone (around 40-50mm in size) used to support railway lines or as a general 'fill' material of crushed rock, slag or gravel.
Feb 03, 2012· In very high strength concrete mixtures where coarse aggregate bond is critical, angular cubicle shaped coarse aggregates generally give higher strengths than rounded smooth aggregates. Where extremely high strengths are not required, acceptable concrete can be made with different types of aggregates, with some variation in w/cm required to ...
ASTM C 33, Specification for Concrete Aggregates, includes a requirement of an abrasion loss (by ASTM C 535) of less than 50% for aggregates used in concrete construction and less than 40% for crushed stone used in pavements4. According to the ACI 555 Committee Report4, all RCA except that made from the poorest quality recycled concrete, can be ...

This new material gathered from some construction project sites in Iran is used as 100% aggregate in the production of concrete. The results indicated that the crushed clay brick reduced the unit weight and compressive strength of concrete, and increase the water absorption value. This new concrete can be used in non-structural products.
This paper aims to investigate whether concrete which includes crushed, graded and washed recycled construction demolition waste, used as a coarse aggregate, can be manufactured to a comparable strength as concrete manufactured from virgin aggregates. \ud \ud Design/methodology/approach – Laboratory testing investigated the strength ...
The utilized mixtures contained natural aggregate concrete (NAC) such as basalt and crushed marble. Also, recycled coarse aggregate concrete (RAC), which totally replaced natural aggregate, was presented in this paper such as crushed concrete and crushed ceramic. For this study, in the sieve analysis; specific and unit weights, was recorded.

• Aggregates make up some 60 -80% of the concrete mix. They provide compressive strength and bulk to concrete. • Aggregates in any particular mix of concrete are selected for their durability, strength, workability and ability to receive finishes. • For a good concrete mix, aggregates need to be clean, hard, strong particles free of absorbed chemicals or coatings of clay and other fine ...
